Projects and Campaigns
Montrose Quarry
The Montrose Quarry, operated by Boral, has presented a serious and continued threat to the native fauna and flora of the local ecosystem. There have been several attempts to expand the footprint of the quarry, which MEG has firmly opposed with strong community support.
Montrose Fire Safety Garden
The Montrose Fire Safety Garden was a joint project of Montrose Environmental Group, Montrose Fire Brigade and the Shire of Yarra Ranges. It was established to demonstrate how garden design, maintenance, and plant selection may assist in protecting homes against bushfires.
The Kevin and Jill Heinze People's Garden
MEG members designed and planted an indigenous section in the Kevin and Jill Heinze People's Garden, a public community garden connected to Montrose Recreation Reserve. The garden is publicly accessible and MEG continues to perform maintenance and weed control in the indigenous section.
Montrose Playground
MEG has been involved with weed removal works and revegetation of the remnant vegetation surrounding the Montrose Playground (within Montrose Recreation Reserve), as well as initial preparation of signage for the area. The playground is located at 950 Mount Dandenong Tourist Rd, Montrose (map).

Walkabout Montrose
Walkabout Montrose was created by a group of enthusiastic and talented volunteers led by MEG member Kim Wormald, aiming to promote the wonders of the local environment in Montrose and surrounds. The 22-page book offers maps and interesting environmental and historical information about seven walks through local reserves. The book is available from several stores in the local Montrose shops.
